WASANA
by Jitarin Thaothong
19 September - 12 October 2008

Jitarin is one female artist who dares to show what's on the inside."
In her exhibition entitled "Wasana" the artist focuses expressing what's inside rather than the external . It is a

challenge for the artist to talk about her most personal thoughts so she uses her art as a means of cathartic expression
of her deep feelings of pressure from daily life . Her work is characterized by exquisite, dreamlike representations often
incorporating symbology taken from nature.

Jitrin graduated from "Poh Chang", has exhibited in several galleries in Bangkok and is represented by the Thavibu
gallery . The exhibition will  include painting installation photography. Please join our opening event on Friday

New Identity
Ohm Phanphiroj
18 July - 17 Aug 2008

New Identity is a series of triptychs of Thai transsexuals which employ historical conventions from ethnographic photography. That is, conventions which suggest an objective truth about ‘types’ of people. However, rather than claiming a general truth about the nature and appearance of trans-sexuality, Phanphiroj invites the viewer to consider the psychological dimensions of physical transformation.

SHADOW PLAY
Chusak Srikwan
13 June - 13 July 2008

In an exhibition taking a playful but critical view of Thai society and politics, Chusak Srikwan creates his own modern shadow puppet figures based on the southern Siamese tradition of 'nang talung.' The show will open at 7:30 p.m. on June 13 at WHITESPACE Gallery with a special performance of the artist's own shadow puppet theatre.

"Shadow Play" is Chusak's second solo show, after he was featured in the Brand New exhibition of emerging talent at Bangkok University Gallery in 2006. A 2006 graduate of Silpakorn University, Chusak has taken part in more than a dozen group exhibitions in Thailand, as well as the 2007 Pocheon Asia Biennale in Korea. Among his dozen awards are a silver and a bronze medal in the Thailand National Art Works exhibition.

"My art work is inspired by 'Nang Talung,' the shadow puppetry that is part of the culture of Thailand's south. My contemporary puppets comment on recent events, and the dynamics of politics and society. The symbolism of the puppets and their ironic appearances are intended to raise awareness among the audience."
In addition to the shadow puppet figures, the show will feature some of Chusak's drawings

Urban Motion
Vichaya Mukdamanee
9 May - 6 June 2008

Nowadays, many people have not realized and concerned how fast the materialism has come into our modern society. We appreciate the civilization that technology and industrialization have brought to us, but never question ourselves seriously what else has been left beside or destroyed. I use industrial material as a part of my artwork to represent my feeling and perception upon the modern society’s environment, construction and culture.

I faith this happening, see and understand to consciousness and ability to catch up with the feeling change. Finally, those will guide life to self awaken and enlightenment.

AT FIRST & LAST MEMORY with HONEY-BLOOD | Whitespace

AT FIRST & LAST MEMORY with HONEY-BLOOD
Ruangsak Anuwatwimon

Our brain is always in need of news and information through all possible senses. We depend on that given information to the extend we let it leads us to believe that we’re living in the world with the self reflects back at us. Memorization is a procedure which often involves feelings and emotions. We judge the world with our feelings, because each of us is, our own world.
In all our senses, I choose to use vision. Often strong emotions have been memorized through vision. Many times it is unclear, or is made of a strange mixture of perceptions. It is as if I was perceiving some hallucinating scenes from the dreams, because the visions that has been captured is not only of shapes of things, but it is the integration, the complexity of the world that we live in, and the inner world that we selected. It is a set of language within the memory itself.
In this work I attempt to imitate the random resonance of lingual and visions fusions in a moment of time. The observer will be left in an unpredictable stance. Within that period, the observer’s double fusions, memories and the new information may provoke flashback of images, or create a missing moment. That depends on the state the observer’s in, but I believe that through this procedure, what would seems like a scientific legal, is one of the method that would make it possible for us to see. To see that other world which lies in between the two worlds that we know?
